The Cats are looking for Altos - the lower the better!! Some helpful information about auditioning for the Cats… We sing because we love it and we enjoy each other’s company. This is not a business venture, and any money we make goes into a kitty (no pun intended) for general use by the group for expenses. However, we are serious about the music we make and are committed to the group and each other. Rehearsals: Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at a Cat’s home. We try to keep the rehearsals in a central location, such as Coolidge Corner (Brookline), Arlington, or Wellesley, but on occasion we meet in Framingham. You should note that these places are not necessarily T accessible, so if you don’t have a car, you’ll need to carpool with another Cat. Rehearsals are important, so if you currently have a Monday night engagement, then perhaps this is not the best time for you to audition. We do understand that we all have real lives, though, and we try to work things out when we can. Auditions: At the audition, we ask that you prepare a short piece to sing for us (a cappella, of course). We will also do some exercises to check your range and musicality – e.g. singing back a sequence of notes, picking out a note in a chord. We will also teach you a part of one of our arrangements where we will be looking for blend, how quickly you learn the part, if you can hold your part while others around you are singing other parts, etc. Please note that reading music is not a requirement! We are just as interested in people who can learn things by ear. We look forward to hearing from you! If you have any other questions, please let us know. Thanks! |
